One of the most important races of the year is already here in Formentera: the popular half marathon!
It’s such a beautiful race that it attracts hundreds of runners from all over Spain and beyond. It is, without a doubt, an unmissable event for all lovers of this sport.
Thousands of people are pre-registered each year, and a lottery has to be held to decide who are the lucky ones who get their race number. The race has a maximum participation of 2000 runners.
This year’s edition, the eleventh, will be celebrated on May 11th. The departure takes place in the Lighthouse of La Mola, located in the most eastern point of the island and one of the most impressive places of Formentera, more than 120 metres above the sea.
The race runs along the most prominent roads and streets, with several refreshments to give runners a bit of rest and energy.
If you are a running passionate but you have not yet decided to run here, I suggest you read the following points, because we are going to clear all your doubts.
Five reasons why the Half Marathon of Formentera is one of the most beautiful asphalt races in the world.
It is the best way to get to know Formentera, its villages and its people.
You will be surrounded by paradisiacal beaches and forests of pine, juniper, almond and fig trees.
The temperature during May, when it is still not too hot, is usually perfect for this type of races.
It does not require great physical strength, so if you are well trained it will be like going for a short stroll.
If you are starting to run long distances, what can be better than choosing the beautiful island of Formentera for one of your first challenges.
There is also a race option more accessible for all runners. Only 8 kilometres, the last part of the half marathon. This is the distance that runs from Sant Ferran to La Savina, where the finishing line is, so that anyone can enjoy this race in paradise.
So you have no excuse to come to this dream island with your running shoes and all your energy. Either to run the half marathon or a simple race to fill your soul with joy. As our dear client Raúl Gómez would say: Running is cool!
