Where to stay in Formentera

Formentera, because of its proximity to Ibiza, a mere 30 minutes ferry ride, is the destination chosen by many visitors for a day trip. However, if you want to be able to fully appreciate the calm and natural nature of the island there’s nothing better than spending a few days there, renting a car and not leaving a single corner to discover.

One word of caution, don’t leave booking accommodation for the last moment because finding where to sleep in Formentera can be somewhat complicated in high season. If you can, choose the months of May or October, the island is quieter but everything is open so you can enjoy all the leisure offer with less people and at a better price.

The hotel offer in Formentera is rather scarce, there are few hotels and in the high season months prices can reach 450 € per day.

Among the best-rated hotels in the specialized websites you can find some luxury beach clubs, a resort with independent villas, bungalows for family travel and also a few hotels with spa. You can also find some 2 or 3-star hotels but there are few and you have to book really well in advance.

Along with this hotel offer you can find other tourist accommodation options such as hostels or apartments that expand the possibilities.

Formentera hostels are like small hotels with less facilities and services. Doing a search on any internet booking portal you can find hostels with a good value for money where everything is very familiar and the food is homemade and delicious.

They are ideal for couples or groups of friends who rent a car or a motorbike and who want to spend all day out to get the best out of the island, going to the beach and restaurants and shopping in the markets. Many of them are bed & breakfast type and the price per person is around 60€ – 120 € depending on the month you come.

Another option in Formentera is to stay at a tourist apartment. This type of accommodation is regulated by the administration so they offer all the guarantees together with services like cleaning, change of sheets and towels and ample time of reception service.

It is an interesting option to bear in mind if you travel with children for the ease you have of being able to be like you would at home. Apartments can be found for about € 275 per day for up to 4 adults and 2 children.

As for campsites and hostels, camping is not allowed anywhere in Formentera and there is only a youth hostel of public property. It is quite small and used by organized groups so you have to book it well in advance.

Whether in a hotel, hostel or apartment, don’t forget to book early so that you can choose the accommodation that best suits your travel plan.
